Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory: A Dual-Language Edition弗洛伊德精神分析理论:双语版by Sigmund Freud著者:西格蒙德·弗洛伊德Originally published in German as "Die Traumdeutung"最初以德文版出版,书名为《梦的解析》Translated by A.A. Brill英文版译者:A. A. 布里尔Publisher: Basic Books出版社:基本图书公司New York, 1960纽约,1960年INTRODUCTION前言The present volume is an attempt to give an English version of Freud's "Die Traumdeutung" which was originally published in German in 1900. Complete fidelity to the text has been our aim. The translator has endeavored to follow his author's thought, to give it as far as possible a literal translation, and to bring over into English every detail of Freud's exposition and argument. The result is that the reader has here a version of Freud's book which is as nearly as possible a literal translation and yet one which is easily read and follows the natural English sentence structure. The text is divided into paragraphs for ready reference, and the paragraph numbers of the original German edition are given in the margin for quick location of any passage. In addition, we have added, at the request of our publisher, cross-references to Freud's "The Interpretation of Dreams" (1900), which was first published separately and then included in vol. vii of the "Standard Edition" of Freud's works. The reader will find it helpful to keep these cross-references in mind while reading this volume. The volume is not a complete translation of Freud's "Standard Edition" but only of one volume out of that series. We trust that this volume will be found useful by all students of Freud and psychoanalysis and that it will help to bring Freud's "Die Traumdeutung" within the reach of all who are interested in the subject. The task has been a laborious one, but we trust that the result will prove to be a labor well spent. The present volume contains a complete translation of Freud's "Die Traumdeutung" up to page 240 of the original German volume. The remaining pages of Freud's book have been left untranslated as a sufficient number of important examples are given here for the understanding of Freud's theory of dreams. It was found impossible to compress Freud's long and involved sentences into English sentences of equal length without sacrificing something to clearness and ease of comprehension. The reader will therefore find it helpful to read this volume slowly and carefully, stopping to digest each paragraph before going on to the next one. We trust that such reading will bring the reader a rich reward for his effort inasmuch as he will thereby obtain a deep and comprehensive understanding of Freud's great work on dreams.
