It is located in the west of Henan Province, with a length of about 179 kilometers from east to west and a width of about 168 kilometers from north to south. Spanning both sides of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, Luoyang is bordered by Zhengzhou City to the east, Sanmenxia City to the west, Jiaozuo City to the north across the Yellow River, and Pingdingshan City and Nanyang City to the south. As of 2022, Luoyang City administers one county-level city, eight counties, and six districts, covering a total area of 15,230 square kilometers and with a permanent resident population of 7.069 million.Luoyang is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, the eastern starting point of the Silk Road, and the center of the Sui-Tang Grand Canal. Historically, thirteen dynasties have established their capitals in Luoyang. Luoyang has five major capital sites, including the Erlitou Site, the Yanshi Shangcheng Site, the Eastern Zhou Wangcheng Site, the Han-Wei Luoyang City Site, and the Sui-Tang Luoyang City Site.
